Tasmania
was an ITU World Cup
Hi
All,
Today
in Tasmania was an ITU World Cup Points Race also known
as – The International Hobart Triathlon which
was held over a tough Olympic Distance Course (1.5km
Swim / 40km Ride / 10km Run). With some of the world’s
best female triathletes again racing, Tri-alliance’s
own Tameka Day finished in 4th spot in the Elite Female
Section behind race winner Emma Snowsill, Felicity Abrams
and American Barb Lindquist. Tameka was only 20 seconds
behind Lindquist at the finish. She finished ahead of
Athens and Sydney Olympians Nicole Hackett and Maxine
Seear, with Pip Taylor, Nikki Egyed rounding out the
top 15. It was a truly great field.
The
question must now be asked – just how far can
this girl go………………………..?
Tameka
had a great swim leg, and was in the chase bunch of
9 girls, and then made a break away at the 20km mark
of the bike leg with 4 other girls including 2004 World
Champion Emma Snowsill. Onto the final 10km run leg,
and she ran with Emma Snowsill for the first 1km and
then had a great middle 5km. The running on adrenalin
and smelling something special, Tameka finished off
strongly and came across the line smiling in 4th spot
and her most successful result yet. It made it all the
more better as there will be a nice little cash surprise
at presentation this evening as well.
This
was a fantastic result for Tam, and one that shows we
might have to start thinking of some bigger things on
the world stage. Her current rate of improvement is
certainly outdoing my time line and meticulous planning
for success. Tameka’s next race is next weekend
in Geelong for the Victorian Sprint Distance Championships.
She will be a bit now tired for this weekend –
but we’ll see how we go. Anything’s possible!
It
two other great results Sophie Joynes and our newest
team member Alethe West also had great races considering
both were ill with Gastro and sore throats during the
week. Sophie suffered with cramps on the bike and run
leg after limited food and fluid intake, and Alethe
had a solid ride before coming home very well on the
final 10km run leg. These two girls are both aiming
for the World Age Group Champs in 2005 and both will
be at the top of their games come later this year.
Unfortunately
at the time of writing I do not yet have Sophie’s
and Alethe’s results but from all reports we are
looking at Top 10 in the 20 – 24 year age group.
Another great result. Stay tuned……….
Adam
Marks – possibly our newest long course specialist
took on the Surf Coast International Triathlon today
down at Torquay over a 2km Swim / 80km Ride / 20km Run.
This was his first lash at the ‘long stuff’
and did very well coming home in 4hrs 28mins. A bit
sore yes – but it was a well planned and well
executed race by ‘marksy’ so we congratulate
him and ‘the coach’ salivates at the possibility
of getting him into Ironman. Well done Adam!
I
hope everyone had a great weekends training and racing.
