Noosa Triathlon 2006 Report

Noosa Race Photo's

Hi Team,

Well another fantastic Noosa experience come and gone and we have had a bit of a mixed bag, but overall some fantastic results.  The day started out very overcast conditions – but as the race got underway it became very warm in the sun and the heat played a factor.  It wasn’t the searing heat of past years, but it was hot none the less.   We started the week off in Noosa – with the coach lining up in the ‘wrongly named’ – “30-34 veterans category” for the Eyeline 1000 Ocean Swim on the Friday afternoon.  I managed to grab a win, and a selection of some nice Eyeline apparel which was a good prize for nearly heaving at the finish.  Julie King from the CBD squad pulled on the cossie for a well earned 3rd place in the 1000 open water with only 2 days before the big race.

Friday morning saw the majority of the group together for a group ride over the course, familiarising with the tactics, road condition and the hill climb and hill decent. We also experienced the local traffic skills with Qld drivers.  There was no love from them as they nearly took out the group on several occasions.

Saturday was a bit of a sharpener for the CBD group with a quick bike, run and swim session while the guys from Geelong didn’t do to much in the way of training – just a lot of R and R.

Sunday morning arrived and the conditions where better than previous years with cooler conditions and the chance of rain.  This was great for the southerners who can not keep up with the heat on the run. We had around 45 athletes participate in the Noosa Triathlon with a further 25 supports dotting around Noosa with the supports tops on.

It honestly looked like we where everywhere in the Tri Alliance tops thanks to Richard Brown for supporting the team.

With the best women’s field assembled in 10years including 4 of the top 10 ranked females in the world - Tameka was first off in the Elite Female and after (in hindsight) a good swim – she set about’s trying to reel them in on the bike.  Entering transition in 8th place, she had the fastest run split of the day a slick - 35.30mins (quicker than Emma Snowsill, Annabel Luxford and race winner Felicity Abrams) to run herself into 6th place and show that we aren’t far from cracking it in the big time.  A Great Effort.

Emily – raced in the Open Female and performed very well finishing 3rd and at this stage qualifying her for her pro card – upon us sending in the paperwork.  She swum very well and rode even better and then hung on to her spot with about 1km to go.  This was again a very good effort.

All in all a very good day.  I have said it before and I will say it again – this is one of the best races in the world, and one of the best experiences and places to race – ever.  I’ve already booked for next year.

Love it.

See you all on Thursday this week for training.
