PRE SEASON TRIATHLON BEGINNER CLINIC 2007

Training: Education and Training Sessions

Dates: 25th, 27th of October, 8th, 10th, 15th and 17th of November 2007.

Time: 6.30pm to 7.30pm on Thursday’s and 8:00am to 9:30am on Saturday mornings.

Venue: Elwood Life Saving Club, Elwood Foreshore, Elwood. Melways Reference

Cost: $45 to all participants, with all proceeds going to the Elwood Life Saving Club for use of shower, change rooms and water safety

Details: The sessions are to be a combination of education and physical training related to the sport of triathlon.

Transition

Week One

Saturday 27th of October.
Transition One and Bike. No Swim.
Session 1 is a 15 to 20 minute refresher discussion on the first transition, mounting and settling into the bike.
This will then follow with the practical, learning the skills of handling their bike in transition through a step by step skill refreshed on the oval for 25 min.
The session will finish with participants completing a dry start from the waters edge and onto the bike.

Week Two
Thursday 1st of November
Transition One and Bike. No Swim.
Session 2 revisits bike handling skill bike, refreshing the use of their bikes on the road using set out obstacles practicing turning, breaking and handling. Finally participants will put this together with a dry swim exit, wetsuit removal, running up the beach, location of bike, bike prep in transition, navigation in transition, mounting the bike and safety issues.
Saturday 4th of November
Open Water Swim
15 to 20 minutes discussion on open water swimming, getting your wetsuit on and off, using lubricants and maintenance of the wetsuit, how to read the water, preparation and warm up, participants will practice race start, navigation and breathing, different open water conditions.
20 to 30 min practical session dependent on conditions. Transition Two Bike to Run

Week Three
Thursday 8th of November.
15 to 20 minute discussion on what was learnt from the bike on Thursday 1st of November , looking at tips on how to improve individuals times on the bike and safety.
Session 4 participants will revisit dismounting off the bike, how to prepare the legs for the run and running off the bike.
Session will start back on the oval or sealed road with dismounting the bike and running with the bike into transition.
Participants will finish up with running technique session, developing a relaxed running style and sock legs in the water for recovery.
Saturday 10th of November
Open Water Swim Continued from the 4th of November.  
15 to 20 minute discussion on the practical followed by 60 min practical
Practice Ins and Outs, entering and exiting the water at speed, navigation, breathing, pack swimming, turning the buoys, finding large land marks, preparing to exit the water and removing your swim cap goggles and wetsuit.

Week Four

Thursday 15th of November.
Mini Triathlon.
Participants will be briefed on how to the course of the triathlon.
Participants will be have the opportunity to put together all their skills in the first mini Tri.  Under controlled conditions athletes will be able to go through their paces practicing and combining the swim, bike, run and transitions into a well performed simulation of a full triathlon. 
Saturday 17th of November
An easy Swim Bike and Run session to tapper and relax for the giving confidence and testing out equipment for the race at St Kilda on the 18th of November.
Saturday Afternoon it the Tri Alliance Tips and Tricks Session at St Kilda which is highly recommended for all beginners.  Clinic includes transition walk through and tips and tricks.


Finishing with a mini Triathlon


Time: 6.00pm to 7.30pm on Thursday and 8:00am to 9:30am on Saturday (education, training and full mini triathlon).

Venue: Elwood Life Saving Club, Elwood Foreshore, Elwood.

Details: The sessions are to be a combination of education and physical training in order to provide the skills to participate in a beginner triathlon Qualified training instructors are to be present at each supervised session.

Registration: All bookings to be managed by Tri Alliance. A booking form with names, addresses and contact details are to be collected from all participants.
