Tri Alliance, Tameka Day smashes the course record at Gold Coast half
Hi Team,
Well what a weekend that was had by the Tri Alliance training squad. We had one Group compete at Race 5 of the Victorian Duathlon Series in Richmond another portion of the training group compete at the Gold Coast Half Ironman and then we had a group do a long ride in prep for the Hawaiian I.M. and Bussleton – Massive.
Race 5 of the Duathlon Series was a cracker in Melbourne with our own Emily Rooke taking out line honors in the Women's Elite Section, Matt Bailey coming off a tiring week at a VIS/TVDP Training Camp to finish in 1st in the 16-19 boys and Jessica Osment finishing with a 2nd place in the 25-29 Female, Hayley Frodsham 3rd in the 25-29 Female, Julie King 1st 50-54 Females. What a great effort by these 5 competitors. Young Scotty McPherson is now showing a great many signs that that growth spurt is about to happen with a case of sore knees and possible case of osgoods schlatter disease (quick growth syndrome) so he didn’t race today but will be back very soon. Well Done to all who raced in Melbourne today.
At the Gold Coast Half Ironman, it was similar near perfect conditions with the sun out and a strong wind near the end, but our Geelong Squad once again showed they are a fantastic and hard working lot. In what must rate a very special mention our Tameka Day broke the course record, to record a sizzling time of 4.14hrs and win the women's elite section by over 20minutes. This is an amazing result considering those athletes who have raced over this course in the past, such as Emma Carney, Jo-anne King (both previous World Champions), Liz Blatchford, Angela Milne just to name a few. Belinda Harrison also finished in a great time of 4.40hrs and there was only 9 minutes separating 2nd place and Belinda’s 8th place – again another magnificent effort and this just shows we are very much on track for a big effort at the Bussleton I.M. Robyn Mc Geary in her first race back after a long layoff with illness took out the women's section in the 45-49 Female – what a great effort also.
All our great performances today came from:
Elisha Day racing in the 25-29 Female in 5.25hrs
Richard Sekasan racing in the 35-39 Male in 5.07hrs and qualified for I.M. Aus.
Robyn Mc Geary 1st place and racing in the 45-49 Female in 5.04hrs
Cam Simon 4th Place and racing in the 30-34 Male in 4.22hrs
Tameka Day 1st Place and racing the Female Elite in 4.14hrs
Belinda Harrison 8th Place and racing the Female Elite 4.40hrs
These are just all fantastic results by everyone and you should all be very proud of yourself – well done.
Cheers
